Success and Sorrow on Makalu |

On May 26th, Tunç Findik (Turkish), Arnold Coster (Dutch, expedition leader), Guntis Brands (Swiss), Haris Kiriakakis (Greek) and Nepalese Sherpa climbers Dawa, Lhakpa and Kancha summited Makalu by the normal route. So the first ascents from countries Nrs. 38 to 40 (Turkey, Netherlands and Greece) were achieved.
On descent Haris became exhausted and so far he was not able to come down on his own. Several attempts to help him failed. Hopefully there is still a chance to save his life!

Marty Schmidt summited Makalu on Monday |

Shared Summits reported, that Marty Schmidt summited Makalu on May 24th. He ascended by the normal route. In 2001 he climbed Kangchenjunga and he also climbed Cho Oyu four times (twice within four days in 2001 and also twice within three days in 2004). |

Another Age Record on Lhotse |

On May 23rd, Tamara Lunger from South Tyrol in Italy was successful on Lhotse! She is now the youngest lady climber, who ascended this mountain with 23 years and 351 days!

New Age Record on Shisha Pangma confirmed |

When Austrian climber Alois Neuhuber summited Shisha Pangma in 1997, he became the oldest climber on top of this mountain (65 years and 32 days). On May 17th Japanese climber Kazuyoshi Kondo summited with Edurne Pasaban and all the others and achieved a new age record with 68 years and 176 days. It was his eighth 8000er! Congratulations! |

Another new Country on Everest: Bangladesh |

It was reported, that yesterday Musa Ibrahim from Bangladesh summited Everest. The first 8000er summited by a Bangladeshi was in autumn 2009, when Abdul Mohit ascended Cho Oyu! Now Bangladesh is the 67th country with at least two different 8000ers.
