1961 Gyaltsen Norbu, Indian Sherpa climber, who ascended Makalu in 1955 and Manaslu M in 1956, both were first ascent participations. He was the first person, who was on top of two 8000ers. He died on Langtang Lirung (7227 m), aged 43.
1996 Douglas (Doug) Hansen (46, USA), Andrew Harris (31, NZ), Yasuko Namba (f, 47, Jp), Scott Fischer (40, USA), Robert (Rob) Hall (35, NZ) and the three Indian climbers Dorje Morup (47), Tsewang Paljor (28) and Tsewang Smanla (38) died on Everest in a fatal storm on this day or the day before.
