1986 Alfred Imitzer, Austrian climber, who ascended Nanga Parbat in 1978, died on descent of K2, aged 40. The Polish lady climber Dobrosława (Mrówka) Miodowicz-Wolf and another Austrian climber, Hannes Wieser, also died on that day at the Abruzzi ridge of K2.
1999 Hirotaka Sugiyama, Japanese climber, who ascended Everest in 1996, died with two companions on Batura Sar I (7794 m), aged 43.
