1938 Carl-Josef Schulte, German climber, who ascended Cho Oyu in 1996.
1941 Theo Pichler, Austrian climber, who ascended Cho Oyu in 1991.
1944 Reinhard Streif, Austrian climber, who ascended Nanga Parbat in 1978.
1948 Tilman Fischbach, German climber, who ascended Everest in 1979 and Shisha Pangma and Cho Oyu in 1988.
1950 Paul Michael Obert, American climber, who ascended Everest in 2003, where he finished the Kosciuszko-version of the Seven summits.
1950 Jeff Lowe, American climber, who achieved multiple first ascents in the Rocky Mountains, the Alps and the Himalayas. In 2017 he was awarded the Piolets d'Or Lifetime Achievement Award. He died in 2018, aged 67.
1954 James (Jim) Williams, American climber and adventurer, who travelled to the South Pole in the season 1988/89 and ascended Everest in 2000, where he finished the Carstensz-version of the Seven Summits. Later that year he also finished the Kosciuszko-version.

2007 Robert Hicks Bates, American pioneer who achieved, together with Bradford Washburn, the first ascent of Mount Lucania in 1937 and was a member of the American expeditions to K2 in 1938 and 1953, died, aged 96.
2009 Sven Gangdal, Norwegian climber (Jon's twin brother), who ascended Everest in 1996, Shisha Pangma Central-Peak in 1999, Manaslu in 2002, Makalu in 2004 and Lhotse in 2006, died in a boat accident in Norway, aged 55.
2011 Walter Bonatti, Italian pioneer, who made the first ascent of Gasherbrum IV in 1958 with Carlo Mauri, died, aged 81.
