Everest News and Tables Updated to 2010

Nine climbers summited Everest yesterday! This means, that the South Col-Route has 3000 ascents now, a new incredible record!

Among them was Sherpa climber Phurba Tashi, who now ascended Everest for the 18th time and, as he also ascended Cho Oyu five times and Manaslu once, he equals the record for climbing 8000ers from Juanito Oiarzabal with 24 ascents!


 

To date 70 ascents were done on a May 5th in climbing history! It was the fifth time in history and the third time in a row the first ascent day of the season!

Back in 1988 it was the first time with 12 ascents, in 1999 the second time with 20 ascents, which is still the first season ascent day record, in 2009 with 7, last year with 10 and yesterday with 9.

Cho Oyu Summits

Swiss climber Ueli Steck and Canadian climber Don Bowie summited Cho Oyu yesterday! Ueli summited Cho Oyu only 18 days after his ascent of Shisha Pangma.

Iranian Climber Died on Manaslu

During the ascent of Manaslu on April 29th an Iranian climber died of cerebral edema. His name was Isa Mir-Shekari!

Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner: K2 again

Austrian lady climber Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner (40) announced, that she will go to K2 again this summer, together with her German husband Ralf Dujmovits (49) and the Argentinean climber Tommy Heinrich (49). Probably a Polish climber and possibly two Kazakh climbers will join the expedition as well. They will attempt the mountain from the Chinese North side.

Manaslu Summits

It is reported, that the Iranian Manaslu expedition was successful on April 29th with seven man and one woman on the summit.

Parvaneh Kazemi is the first Iranian lady climber on top of Manaslu.

For Mohammad Hassan Najarian it is the sixth 8000er after Gasherbrum II in 1997, Everest in 1998, Makalu in 2001, Lhotse in 2002 and Broad Peak in 2008.
