1948 Asbjørn Hjertenes, Norwegian climber, who ascended Cho Oyu in 2006.
1954 Juichi Kobayashi, Japanese climber, who ascended Everest in 2000.
1954 Eghbal Aflaki, Iranian climber, who ascended Lhotse in 2002 and Everest in 2005.

1994 Barry Chapman Bishop, American pioneer, who ascended Everest in 1963, died, aged 62.
2017 Norman Dyhrenfurth, Swiss-American mountaineer and film maker, who is the son of the pioneer and chronicler Günter Oskar Dyhrenfurth. He also was the leader of the successful Everest-expedition in 1963, where the first ascent by the West Ridge and the first traverse of the mountain was achieved. He died on this day, aged 99.
