1979 Dawa Gyalje (aka Dawa Gyalzen), Nepalese Sherpa climber, who ascended Everest fourteen times (2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2018, 2019, 2021, three times in 2023 and 2025), Cho Oyu in 2009, Manaslu RP twice (2011 and 2021), Gasherbrum II three times (2016, 2023 and 2024), Gasherbrum I three times (2016, 2023 and 2025), K2 twice (2017 and 2022), Broad Peak Foresummit in 2017, Lhotse in 2019, Annapurna I and Manaslu M three times (2021, 2023 and 2025), Dhaulagiri I, Kangchenjunga, Makalu and Broad Peak in 2022, Nanga Parbat in 2023 and Shisha Pangma in 2024, where he finished all 14 8K Main-Peaks.

Kim Jae-Soo possibly climbed all 14

It is reported, that Kim Jae-Soo also ascended Annapurna I on April 26th! The report claims all the 14 8000ers for him, but there is a problem.

Some years ago a Korean mountaineer and chronicler informed about a climbing date for Kim Jae-Soo on Cho Oyu in 1993. It was attempted to confirm this ascent, because nobody outside of Korea knew about it! No details were given since then. So Miss Hawley had and has no entry for this ascent in her Himalayan Database. 

As long, as there is no clarifying answer from Korea about the 1993 Cho Oyu ascent, the ascent remains unrecognized in our archives and not even recorded in the Himalayan Database.

Erhard Loretan died in the Alps

The third climber, who ascended all the 14 8000ers, Swiss mountaineer Erhard Loretan, died yesterday, on his 52nd birthday by a fatal fall in the Alps!

Our condolences go to his family and friends!

Today Abele Blanc finally succeeded on Annapurna I and finished the 14 8000ers.

Ueli Steck on Top of Shisha Pangma

Swiss climber Ueli Steck summited Shisha Pangma on Sunday across the SW Face route! He started on Saturday night at 10h30 pm and stood on top alone on Sunday morning. Don Bowie had to give up and so Ueli climbed to the top alone. Now the two are going to Cho Oyu!

First Pakistani 8000er Climbed in Winter

Yesterday Denis Urubko, Simone Moro and Corey Richards summited Gasherbrum II, the first 8000er in Pakistan in winter. The table with all winter ascents so far is updated here.

Simone Moro climbed seven different 8000ers (plus three Everest repetitions) so far, three of them in winter.

This was also Denis Urubko's 19th 8000er ascent.
