Ueli Steck on Top of Shisha Pangma

Swiss climber Ueli Steck summited Shisha Pangma on Sunday across the SW Face route! He started on Saturday night at 10h30 pm and stood on top alone on Sunday morning. Don Bowie had to give up and so Ueli climbed to the top alone. Now the two are going to Cho Oyu!

First Pakistani 8000er Climbed in Winter

Yesterday Denis Urubko, Simone Moro and Corey Richards summited Gasherbrum II, the first 8000er in Pakistan in winter. The table with all winter ascents so far is updated here.

Simone Moro climbed seven different 8000ers (plus three Everest repetitions) so far, three of them in winter.

This was also Denis Urubko's 19th 8000er ascent.

 
Joe Puryear Lost in Tibet!

It's been reported, that Joseph (Joe) Puryear, the great American climber (born on August 17th, 1973), who's passion was to search for first ascent possibilities, died on Lapche Kang I (aka Labuche Kang or Labgye Kung, 7367 m) in Tibet!

Avalanche on Baruntse: Chuwang Nima missed!

Chuwang Nima, one of the leading Sherpa climbers is missing after an avalanche on Baruntse on Saturday!

Chuwang Nima (born August, 20th 1967, sometimes aka Chhewang Nima), who ascended Everest 18 (!) times (one ascent was unrecognized!), also summited Cho Oyu in 2002 and Shisha Pangma Central-Peak in 2004.

The name of the second Sherpa climber, who went missing in the avalanche is not known so far.
